New Delhi, Sep 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed India’s 7.8 per cent economic growth, saying the strong performance reflects the hard work, resilience and collective strength of the people.
Modi said the growth was achieved despite a challenging global environment marked by geopolitical tensions, wars, economic uncertainty and disruptions in global supply chains.
The Prime Minister also called for greater focus on domestic products and services, urging citizens to adopt a stronger ‘Swadeshi’ approach in their consumption choices.
He encouraged people to reduce unnecessary spending on overseas travel, destination weddings and gold purchases, and instead support activities that contribute to the domestic economy.
Modi said greater preference for Indian products and services can help strengthen local businesses, create employment opportunities and support the country's long-term economic growth.
The appeal is in line with the government's broader push for self-reliance, domestic manufacturing and stronger local enterprises under the vision of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The Prime Minister also criticised what he described as an “echo of lies” surrounding India's economic performance and highlighted the latest growth figure as evidence of the country's resilience.
The 7.8 per cent GDP growth comes at a time when several economies are facing global uncertainties. Strong domestic demand and economic activity continue to support India's growth momentum.
The latest remarks underline the government's focus on strengthening the domestic economy while encouraging citizens and businesses to contribute to India's broader development goals.
