New Delhi, Aug 29: India and Argentina are looking to strengthen their economic relationship by expanding cooperation in areas such as lithium, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy and technology.

The two countries reviewed opportunities to deepen trade and investment during the fourth meeting of the India-Argentina Joint Trade Committee in Buenos Aires. The discussions focused on improving market access, supporting businesses and identifying new areas where companies from both countries can work together.

Bilateral trade has been growing steadily, crossing $6.5 billion in 2025. The increase reflects the expanding commercial relationship between the two economies and growing interest among businesses in exploring new markets.

Critical minerals, particularly lithium, have emerged as an important area of cooperation. India is seeking reliable access to minerals that are essential for batteries, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and other advanced technologies.

Indian state-owned company KABIL has been involved in lithium exploration activities in Argentina. Further exploration opportunities are also being examined, which could strengthen India's access to critical mineral resources over the longer term.

Pharmaceuticals are another major area where both countries see room for greater cooperation. Discussions are aimed at improving market access for Indian medicines in Argentina and making the regulatory process more supportive of pharmaceutical trade.

For Indian pharmaceutical companies, better access to the Argentine market could create new export opportunities. At the same time, greater availability of Indian medicines could help expand access to cost-effective healthcare products for Argentine consumers.

Agriculture is also part of the expanding trade agenda. Both sides are working on market-access issues and regulatory requirements for a range of agricultural and food products, which could help increase trade opportunities for producers and exporters.

The partnership is also moving into newer areas such as artificial intelligence, digital services, telecommunications, space technology and aviation. These sectors offer opportunities for companies with expertise in technology, innovation and specialised services.

Business representatives from India and Argentina have also been engaging with each other to identify investment opportunities in sectors including energy, minerals, healthcare, agriculture, banking and tourism.

For India, deeper engagement with Argentina can provide access to important natural resources while opening another market for Indian goods, services and investments. For Argentina, stronger ties with Indian companies can bring investment, technology, manufacturing expertise and access to India's large consumer market.

The growing relationship reflects a shift from traditional merchandise trade towards a broader economic partnership. With cooperation expanding across critical minerals, healthcare, agriculture, energy and technology, India and Argentina have an opportunity to build stronger and more diversified commercial ties.

The latest engagement is expected to encourage greater interaction between businesses and create new opportunities for trade and investment in the years ahead.
