On October 9, 2026, the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University (CUVET), hosted a special lunch seminar, “One Health in Agrifood Systems: Understanding and Exploring Priorities,” bringing together participants from Chulalongkorn University faculties and institutes, government agencies, and the private sector.
The seminar marks an important step forward for CUVET’s intention to advance One Health in Agrifood System as a flagship area of work, building on its longstanding expertise and experience, particularly through its role as an FAO Reference Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
The event was opened by Professor Dr. Kewalee Chatdarong, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, emphasizing CUVET’s intention to make its contributions to the sustainable development goal (SDG) through supporting the implementation of the One Health approach in the agrifood system. Dr. Filip Claes, Regional Manager for One Health in the Agrifood Systems, Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAORAP), shared perspectives on advancing the One Health approach across agrifood systems, highlighting the concept “DETECT EARLY, CONNECT BETTER, ACT FASTER” to address complex challenges relevant to food of animal origin.
Further discussion highlighted several interconnected priorities, including food safety, sustainable food production, AMR, climate change, disaster risks, public health, and well-being. It was emphasized that addressing the challenges being faced by such priorities requires stronger connections across stakeholders in all relevant sectors and a more evidence-based approach for policies, planning and practices, and socio-economic considerations.
Building on CUVET’s scientific and technical strengths and its international experience as an FAO Reference Centre for AMR, CUVET aims to help translate science and evidence into practical actions, contributing to more resilient, safe, sustainable, and health-promoting agrifood systems. CUVET will focus on developing the One Health in Agrifood Systems Platform as a collaborative mechanism that connects expertise, research for evidence-based policies and practices, and capacity development.
CUVET recognizes that One Health cannot be advanced by one discipline or institution alone. The initiative is therefore intended to serve as an open and collaborative platform, bringing together complementary expertise and experience across sectors. CUVET welcomes partnerships with faculties, colleges, and institutes across Chulalongkorn University; other academic and research institutes in Thailand and internationally; government authorities; international organizations; professional networks; the private sector; and other relevant partners.
This soft launch represents a starting point for further dialogue and co-development of the platform. Through the partnership towards the mutual goal, shared expertise, and collective actions, CUVET looks forward to contributing to stronger One Health solutions for agrifood systems in Thailand, the region, and beyond.
